I’m currently building a new secret Twitter account.

It’s much more focused than any of my other ones, so in theory should grow faster than any other Twitter account I’ve ever created.

I’m doing it to prove the Twitter tactics that I talk about all the time. Be consistent. Post 3-5 times per day. Reply to 10-20 big accounts in your niche every day. Make connections. Add value. All the usual stuff.

I know all these tactics work. I use them every day on my own account. I know a Twitter account grows like this. Intellectually I know I’m doing the right thing.

But in my monkey brain, it hurts seeing zero followers.

Every time I see that figure another small bruise appears on my ego.

Another day goes by and the follower count is still zero.

Then the next day it’s jumped to 2. 3. 4. 5.

5 followers now. My ego is recovering a little.

0-1 in anything is the hardest place to begin, but it’s the only place to begin.

Moving a stationary object is hard. It’s much easier when you get the ball rolling and you build momentum.

Then all you’ve got to do is guide it. Guide it towards the right location.

On Twitter: 0-100 followers will be the hardest you ever acquire. You’ll want to quit, go do something else and frequently question yourself.

I know I am right now, and I know I’m doing the right thing.

Stick with it.
Ride out your ego.
Keep going.
